In bar strain gauge load cells the cell is set up in a z formations so that torque is applied to the bar and the four strain gauges on the cell will measure the bending distortion two measuring compression and two tension. The sensitivity of a strain gauge is rated in mv v meaning the maximum output is a function of the excitation voltage. The strength of the signal changes in proportion to the force applied. It converts a force such as tension compression pressure or torque into an electrical signal that can be measured and standardized.
