If you re cleaning vertical blinds in a bathtub basin or bucket you can use your hands to gauge the temperature of the water. Put a few drops of liquid dish soap in the tub to help clean off any dirt or grime from the blinds. Fill the bathtub with warm water and dish soap. Plug the drain and fill the tub with cold water until it covers the blind or slats.

Dry each slat with a soft towel. Do not use water on wood blinds. You can clean fabric vertical blinds without removing the vanes. Washing with hot water can melt the glue unravelling the fold and exposing the weight.

Keep filling the tub until you can completely submerge your blinds in the water. Wash the slats with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge. To clean them start by dusting them with a microfiber cloth. Turn on the showerhead to rinse the blind with fresh warm water.

Add 2 or 3 cups of liquid bleach to the cold water as you. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Transfer the slats or entire blind to your bath tub. Mix in a little mild dishwashing soap.

Pour water from a bucket over the blind if there is no showerhead. Abrasive cleaners may scratch the surface of your blinds so use caution. If the blinds are plastic or metal and you want to leave them in place to clean them make a 50 50 solution of warm water and white vinegar in a bowl or bucket. For tougher grime or dirt you can wipe the vanes with soapy water and a microfiber cloth or allow them to soak in a tub.

Drain the soapy water with the blind still in the bathtub.
